Care of Your Wood Bat
Do not store in extreme heat or cold (do not use a wood bat for batting practice if the temperature is below 50 degrees). Do not store your bats in your car overnight. Do not let others use your bat—this will decrease the # of swings you will get in the bats lifetime. Do not lay bat in wet grass—dry and wipe down to prevent bat from absorbing excess moisture. Keep pine tar use to a minimum—this will also add excess weight to the bat. Store bats in an upright position. If you are going to use your bat for batting practice only, tape up the barrel for additional strength (Pro’s use regular athletic tape) – remove and replace tape if it gets wet/dirty over time.
MOST IMPORTANTLY—hit pitches with the label facing up at the sky or down at the ground when the bat is extended through the hitting area (rotating the bat-sometimes up & sometimes down will extend the life of your wood bat). Study how the label is always placed on the broad side of the grain---- this is the weaker side of the bat and contact here should be avoided at all cost! |
